Beer Of The Week: Rhinegeist Fiction

Fiction is a Belgian Style Pale Ale coming in with a softer 6.0 ABV. It is a Belgian Style Pale Ale that uses the Pilsner malt, and slightly less known hop varieties with Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, and Sterling. Overall it’s a pretty beer, but not what I’d expect in this category. I think the Pilsner malt is great, but I just don’t see it in a different category of beers.

Unlike most Belgian style anything, this beer has a light golden body with a filtered look. To be honest, I’m not sure why they laid it out into this category, because it’s too light for it. A perfect summer beer in its high sessionability, but I’d expect some more backbone given that its a BSPA. Looks good though and smells good, but flavor is mild. This could be symptomatic of my preference for hoppy beers though, so I admit I have some prejudices going into it. However, if you’re looking for something to drink while sitting on the back porch in shorts and under a shade umbrella, this could be it.
