Beer Of The Week: Stone Ruination 2.0

Stone has set the groundwork for a lot of micro brewing in this country, and their Ruination IPA was one of the first West Coast year round offerings ever. The standard bearer for all other American Double/Imperial IPAs, Ruination is one of my favorite.

It’s no secret, I love hoppy beers and this beer has hops in spades. Utilizing Magnum, Nugget, Centennial, and a few others, this thing is a fine smelling and fine tasting brew. Color is gorgeous light orange and pours smoothly, with a thin white head. Carbonation is moderate, and with its unfiltered nature you’d have trouble seeing it. Aroma and taste brings that tropical fruit and piney smell I like so much. As in most IPAs I like, the smell matches the flavor. It’s smooth going down, and at 8.5% ABV it can be considered sessionable. As always with hoppy beers, fresh is better, so look for a recent born on date to get the most out of it.
